Sakaori Tanada – or the Sakaori terraced rice fields – was chosen as one of Top 100 Terraced Paddy Fields in Japan

The Sakaori terraced rice fields, situated in Nakanoho town in Ena city, is nestled in between Mount Kasagi and Mount Gongen.
Spreading out in the shape of a fan, they were first made about 400 years ago. The fields were built through the experience and wisdom of generations of inhabitants and the atmosphere heals the hearts of everyone who visit them.
With a large difference in temperature across the seasons and plenty of annual rainfall, the upper region of the Sakaori river is a rich, natural wetlands area, where rare plants can grow. The clean, fresh water from these wetlands flows down in to the rice fields, providing the perfect water source for delicious rice.
