“Gomouza” is a traditional Kabuki show from the local area. Iiji town has a long history of kabuki, dating as far back as the 1800s.
The building was first built as Iiji’s community hall in 1951 but was renamed as “Gomouza” in 1995. In 2003, it underwent a major refurbishment and become a theater dedicated to Kabuki. In 2015, the Ministry of Culture recognized it as a cultural property.
The Iiji Gomouza Kabuki preservation society performs the traditional Kabuki performance once a year.
